Donna Wheeler

Jeremy Bloom's Wish of a Lifetime was founded in living Honor of Donna Wheeler, Bloom's Grandmother.  Donna Wheeler was born October 16th, 1925 in Port Huron, Michigan.  Her childhood was spent going to school and working hard on her father's farm.  As a young adult, Donna worked in the banking industry while raising her two daughters, Cheryl and Char.  In 1977, Donna decided it was time for a change and moved to Colorado to live with her daughter Char and her husband.  She spent many years living with them and played an essential role in raising her grandchildren.  Donna's contributions to the family were selfless and limitless.

As an older woman, Donna represents the epitome of what the foundation stands for.  To start, she works full time and has done so for most of her life.  Donna is currently working as a receptionist at a bank, as well as volunteering her time at the local Colorado State Patrol's office.  Although she sincerely enjoys working and staying active in the community, she does so primarily because she must in order to support herself.   Overall, Donna is a healthy senior although at 82 years old, she does deal with chronic illness. Donna battles Sjogren's disease as well as chronic rheumatoid arthritis. These conditions place her in constant pain and make it harder for her to stay so active. Although her doctors would like to see her living in a warm humid climate, Donna lives high in the Rocky Mountains, in Keystone, Colorado where she spends more than half the year driving through snow and ice to get to work every day.   Even faced with these challenges, you will never hear Donna complain about any of it.  If you ask her about her life, she would say nothing but good things and tell you how happy she is to be so healthy and fortunate.   Outside of her vocational experience, Donna is a family woman.   She has maintained incredibly close relationships with all of her grandchildren as well as her daughters.   Donna would probably scold me if I didn't also mention the loves of her life, her two cats Penny Star and Tiger Lilly.   Words that come to mind to describe her are altruistic, kind, empathetic, caring, optimistic, selfless, trustworthy, wise and responsible.   In my opinion, Donna is a model senior citizen; one that's contributions to society can never be overlooked or forgotten.

Donna's wish has always been to have her own greenhouse.   As long as I can remember she has had a passion for growing organic foliage and gardening. We hope through this foundation to be able to help deserving seniors, just like Donna, make their Wish of a Lifetime come true.

With all of my love, respect and gratitude,

Jordan Bloom
